Suffolk Downs ends season with increase in all-sources handle

Suffolk Downs concluded its 101-day live meeting with an increase in all-sources handle but a steep decline in on-track wagering.

All-sources handle increased 7% compared with last year while on-track betting plummeted 22% compared with 2009.

“While we are encouraged by the increase in our all-sources handle, continuing negative trends in live and on-site wagering and the economy in general have made business difficult for facilities like ours that lack the competitive advantage of expanding gaming,” said Chip Tuttle, Suffolk’s chief operating officer.

Orlando Bocachica won the riding title with 111 wins, John Rigattieri won his sixth straight training title with 58 victories, and Aurora Springs Stable was the meet’s leading owner with 30 wins.
