Thoroughbred Times co-hosts Backstretch Appreciation day

THOROUGHBRED TIMES co-sponsored an appreciation day for stable area workers at Santa Anita Park during Breeders’ Cup week.

Called the Backstretch Fiesta and co-sponsored by the California Thoroughbred Trainers and the Edwin J. Gregson Foundation, the event on November 4 was held at the Top o Stretch room in the Santa Anita grandstand and was attended by approximately 700 stable area workers. Anyone licensed by the California Horse Racing Board was invited, plus all foreign grooms that came with a horse running in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The evening featured food, a live band, door prizes, and T-shirts for everyone who came.

This was the second annual Backstretch Fiesta. Contributing prizes and drinks was Breeders’ Cup Ltd., and other companies that participated included Brian Pettigrew’s Affinity Sports Marketing. Helping serve the food and beverages were trainers, chaplains, and deacons.
