Hopkins, Milligan promoted at Oaklawn

The Oaklawn Jockey Club has appointed John Hopkins plant superintendent and Jason Milligan director of operations at Oaklawn Park.

Hopkins replaces Jerry Garner, who is retiring after ten years at Oaklawn, the last four as plant superintendent.

Hopkins will supervise all aspects of facility maintenance at Oaklawn, including the more than 400,000-square feet of grandstand space; the new 90,000-square foot gaming facility; and the stable area, which includes 40 barns and more than 1,500 stalls. Hopkins, who joined the Oaklawn guest relations department in 2001, will also oversee track maintenance.

“We are very fortunate to have an individual of John’s experience and expertise to fill this important position at Oaklawn,” said David Longinotti, Oaklawn’s assistant general manager of racing.

Milligan will supervise operations and security as well as the floor manager staff, which oversees day-to-day operations at the track. He will continue to work on special programs dealing with staffing and other personnel issues.

Milligan first worked at Oaklawn in the guest relations department in 1993 before a stint with Daily Racing Form beginning in 1995. He returned in 1998 to Oaklawn, where he worked as a media relations assistant and press box manager until joining the operations team in 2007.
