Farm manager, trainer Sims dies at 79

Thoroughbred trainer and farm manager Monti W. "Sonny" Sims died on March 6 in Stuart, Florida. He was 79.
Sims served as the farm manager of Coast Stable in Palm City, Florida. He previously worked as a farm manager for Spendthrift Farm in Lexington and Good Chance Farm in Ocala.
As a trainer, Sims conditioned The Very One to five of her 13 career stakes wins, including a victory against males in the 1979 Dixie Handicap (G2) at Pimlico Race Course.
Sims, who was a professional jockey early in his career, is survived by his daughter, Debbie and sons, Erick, Neal, and Todd.
