Edward P. Evans, owner of Spring Hill Farm in Casanova, Virginia, bred five runners recognized as Virginia-bred champions for 2008. The Evans-bred quintet was led by Grade 2 winner Charitable Man and also included Warning Zone, Ghost Dancing, Dance Hall Days, and Casanova Move.

The Virginia Thoroughbred Association named Charitable Man champion Virginia-bred two-year-old male. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and owned by Suzanne and William Warren Jr., Charitable Man won his maiden race at Saratoga Race Course by 11½ lengths and closed his juvenile campaign with a win in the Futurity Stakes (G2) at Belmont Park.

Ranked as the highest rated Virginia-bred filly on the Experimental Free Handicap, Casanova Move was named Virginia-bred champion two-year-old filly after placing third in the 2008 Love Affair Stakes at Aqueduct.

Dance Hall Days received recognition as the Virginia-bred champion three-year-old filly. While winning back-to-back races last summer, the filly won an allowance race at Monmouth Park by 5 3/4 lengths before dominating in the $70,000 Serena’s Song Stakes, also at Monmouth.

The other Virginia-bred champions for 2008 are Winchester (three-year-old male), Sir Whimsey (older male), Debbie Sue (older female), Ghost Dancing (sprinter), Warning Zone (turf horse), and Class Shadow (steeplechaser).
