Top retired jockeys to raise money for disabled riders

More than 20 retired jockeys, including several Racing Hall of Famers, will headline a luncheon to raise money for injured riders on August 7 at Arlington Park.

The event, which will benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and Racetrack Chaplaincy of America, will give fans a chance to meet riders 23 top retired riders including Ron Turcotte, Laffit Pincay, and Pat Day.

Held the day before the Arlington Million Stakes (G1), the Dining with the Dynasties luncheon will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a buffet and an open bar. The afternoon also will include live and silent auctions featuring an array of racing memorabilia.

Other jockeys who plan to attend include: Stacy Burton, Jackie Fires, Dennis Keehan, Braulio Beaza, Jerry Bailey, Walter Blum, Bill Boland, Angel Cordero Jr., Jean Cruguet, Dave Erb, Earlie Fires, Julie Krone, Chris McCarron, Randy Romero, John Rotz, Jose Santos, Gary Stevens, Jorge Velasquez, Bobby Ussery, and Ray Sibille.

All-inclusive tickets to the event are $300.

“We held our first event like this last year but it was on a much smaller scale,” said Nancy LaSala, executive director of the jockeys fund. “The RCA and PDJF wanted to grow the event in to something bigger this year while still keeping the luncheon to an intimate size.”

After the luncheon, there will be a public autograph session and additional silent auction for the general public.
