Rachel Alexandra memorabilia to be auctioned

Posted: Thursday, July 02, 2009 2:58 PM

From now through November, Kendall-Jackson Winery will auction Rachel Alexandra-related items donated by her owner and winery co-founder Jess Jackson to benefit the V Foundation for Cancer Research.

“This is a rare opportunity for us to use the notoriety of this amazing athlete, her appeal to both men and women, to raise money to fight a disease that steals from us all,” Jackson said.

Each item, of progressively escalating value, will be auctioned monthly on www.kj.com. The first auction item is a halter worn by Rachel Alexandra prior to her BlackBerry Preakness Stakes (G1) victory workouts.

All items have a “blind reserve” bid amount guaranteed by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke as the least amount donated to the charity.

Jackson and Banke will present the cumulative total of all auction proceeds to the V Foundation after Rachel Alexandra’s last race of the season or no later than November 30.
