Noted equine nutritionist Larry Lawrence dies

Posted: Tuesday, December 15, 2009 3:47 PM

Larry Lawrence, Ph.D., a senior equine nutritionist with Kentucky Equine Research and a lifelong horseman, passed away on December 13 after a long battle with cancer.

Lawrence joined KER in 2002 after working at Virginia Tech and the University of Washington.

“I had the pleasure of knowing Larry for over 25 years,” said Joe Pagan, founder and president of KER. “I will always remember Larry as a superb horseman, a talented nutritionist and a friend. Larry had a rare gift that allowed him to communicate complex nutritional principles in terms that horsemen could understand. His contribution to equine nutrition and KER has been substantial and he will be truly missed.”

A service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. EST at St. Leo’s Catholic Church at 295 Huntertown Road in Versailles, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass at www.hospicebg.com.
