Racing Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux will be the featured speaker at Sound Beginnings, a charity celebration for hearing impaired and speech delayed children that will raise proceeds for the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center.
The event, which is open to the public, will be held on April 16 at the Carrick House in Lexington. Desormeaux, whose son Jacob was born deaf as a result of Usher’s Syndrome, will speak at the second annual Frankel Hall of Fame Dinner about his trials and triumphs on and off the track.
Robert Clay, owner of Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Kentucky, will introduce Desormeaux.
The late Jimmy and Edie Frankel founded the Lexington Hearing and Speech Center in 1960. Desormeaux will help induct five Lexington Hearing and Speech Center alumni and friends into the Frankel Hall of Fame during the dinner celebration.
“This hall of fame was designed to create a place that would stand as a physical reminder of what an individual can and will accomplish with a sound beginning,” said John Millward, Lexington Hearing and Speech Center board chairman. “The Frankels set the gold standard for all the students, staff, and supporters who work every day to ensure that no one becomes defined by a communication delay or disorder.”
Limited seating is available. To purchase tickets, contact Lori Shepherd at (859) 264-4545 or lori.shepherd@lhscky.org.
