NYRA, Borel team up to support jockey fund
More than $4,000 was raised for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund on Saturday at Belmont Park as jockey Calvin Borel signed autographs for fans.
Fans lined up to purchase autographed pictures of Borel for $10 each with all proceeds benefiting the fund. In all, $2,170 was raised through the autograph session, and NYRA donated a matching amount to the charity to raise the total to $4,340.
“Jockeys put their health at risk every time they get onto the track,” NYRA President Charles Hayward said. ‘We are thrilled to be able to match the money raised today and want to thank Calvin for agreeing to take part in the signing.”
