White Horse Award nominations due August 31

The Race Track Chaplaincy of America will accept nominations for the 2009 White Horse Award through August 31.

The Chaplaincy presents the White Horse Award annually to a person who has displayed a horse racing related act of courage or charity on behalf of a human or a horse.

The Chaplaincy will announce the winner at its annual awards luncheon on November 5 at Santa Anita Park during Breeders’ Cup week. Eligible nominations must highlight heroic acts taken place since August 1, 2008.

Larry Higgs and Todd Malley received the 2008 White Horse Award for their rescue attempts at a barn fire in Vinton, Louisiana, ultimately saving 19 horses.

The award winner receives a $5,000 cash prize, a limited edition White Horse bronze statue designed by Lisa Perry, and a trip for two to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. Two runners-up receive $1,000 each and a plaque recognizing their heroic effort.
