Monmouth Park reports slides in daily wagering, attendance

Posted: Monday, September 29, 2008 3:41 PM

Monmouth Park closed its 100-day meeting on Sunday with a 3.1% increase in average daily handle compared with last year’s average.

The average increased to $3,274,800 this year from $3,177,212. Last year’s meet featured 75 days of live racing.

However, average daily on-site wagering declined 29% and attendance fell 27% compared with last year.

“It’s safe to say the 2008 gave us some expected mixed results,” said Dennis Robinson, president of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. “It’s encouraging that our daily handle showed such a large increase. It’s a testament that our product is strong and that more and more fans are watching and wagering on Monmouth Park.”
