Highlighted by a record guaranteed pick six betting pool and the addition of super high five betting, Breeders’ Cup Ltd. announced wagering formats and post times for its two-day world championships on October 24-25 at Santa Anita Park.
On Saturday, October 25 the Breeders’ Cup World Championships will offer the Ultra Pick 6 wager, which will offer a guaranteed pool of $3-million. That will follow a pick six wager on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup card that will carry over to Saturday if the winning combination is not selected.
For the first time, super high five wagering will be available on Breeders’ Cup races. The wager, which requires the selection of the top five finishers in a race and carries a $1 minimum bet, will be offered in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1) on Friday. If no bettor wins that wager, there will be a carryover into Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1).
While the order of most of the Breeders’ Cup races will be announced later, the Ladies Classic will be contested as race seven on Friday’s card with a post time of 6:15 EDT. On Saturday, the Classic will be contested at 6:45 p.m.
Friday’s ten-race card will feature five Breeders’ Cup races. The first race on the card will be 2:05 p.m. and the first Breeders’ Cup race will be at 3:05 p.m.
Saturday’s 11-race card will offer nine Breeders’ Cup races. The day’s first race will be a Breeders’ Cup race and its post time is 1:10 p.m.
A pick four on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup races will be offered and two pick fours will be offered Saturday. Saturday’s pick four wagers will offer guaranteed pools of $1-million for the early pick four and $2-million for the late pick four. Ten-cent superfectas will be offered on every Breeders’ Cup race except the two offering the super high five wager.
“With 14 World Championship races over the two days, racing fans around the world will have the opportunity to watch and enjoy the best betting days in sports as the Breeders’ Cup has proven year after year,” said Ken Kirchner, who has overseen wagering programs for the Breeders’ Cup since 1996. “It’s the high quality of the fields that produces the incredible betting value, from the Ultra Pick 6 which can return millions, to lucrative exacta and trifecta payouts. With ten-cent superfectas and the new super high five wagers, these are two days every player wants to load up on.”
