Trainer John “Jack” Wilson died on Saturday of apparent heart failure after he was kicked by a horse at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was 88.
According to Presque Isle Downs officials, Wilson was saddling two-year-old Forbidden Dreams when the horse reared and struck Wilson in the face and chest. Wilson was treated on the scene and transported to a hospital, where he died later that evening.
“Jack was a big part of racing at Fort Erie for many years,” Herb McGirr Sr. director of operations for Fort Erie, told Canadian Press. “He was well respected by everyone here at the track. This is a huge loss to our community.”
Wilson trained four stakes winners during his career.
