Proposed N.Y. horse park could cost $76-million

A proposed horse park in Saratoga Springs, New York, would celebrate all breeds but could help Thoroughbreds in particular by providing extra stable space during the Saratoga Race Course meet and include a year-round synthetic surface training track.

A final feasibility study report is forthcoming for the Greater Saratoga Regional Horse Park, but the likely budget for the proposed facility is $76-million.

“We’re trying to think outside the box for funding opportunities,” said. William Schwerd, director of Saratoga County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension, of the state’s budget shortfall.

The park could include a performance arena, an equine health care center, education space, and boarding for retired horses.
