Churchill freezes prices on Derby, Oaks tickets
Posted: Friday, November 21, 2008 2:47 PM

Churchill Downs will not increase some ticket prices for the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1).
Fans will be able to purchase the majority of reserved seats and general admission tickets at the same price levels offered in 2008. There will be a previously scheduled price increase by contract for customers in the 30-year personal seat license program and limited price increases in some luxury suites and for a handful of Marquee Village units adjacent to the Kentucky Derby Red Carpet venue.
A new pricing structure also will be implemented for a reserved seating section in the infield that Churchill will unveil in 2009.
The 135th running of the Kentucky Oaks for three-year-old fillies will be held on May 1, one day before the Kentucky Derby the first leg of the Triple Crown.
“Our slowing economy is having a pronounced effect, and many of our customers have been affected in various ways as well,” Churchill Downs Inc. President Bob Evans said. “Although the Kentucky Derby occupies an elite spot in the world of sports and tickets are typically in high demand, we want to keep our price points at the same level to help our customers in this challenging economic climate.”
Up to 500 fans can purchase a pair of Kentucky Derby tickets each beginning on Sunday and concluding on November 29, closing day of Churchill’s fall meeting.
Fans may enter the drawing each live racing day at Churchill by filling out an entry form at guest service stations located outside Gate 17, or outside of Gate 10 in the clubhouse. Entries must be completed and turned in to guest services between the time that the gates open and by 1:35 p.m. EST in order to be eligible for that day’s drawing.
Gates open at 10 a.m. EST on November 27-29 and 11 a.m. on November 22, 23, and 26.
