2007 CHAMPION TWO-YEAR-OLD FEMALE INDIAN BLESSING
Indian Blessing is a trailblazer. Anyone who witnessed her rousing, wire-to-wire romps in her juvenile season can attest to her leadership skills.
The filly was a trailblazer in 2007 for another reason—she was named champion with the fewest number of starts ever for a juvenile filly in the history of the Eclipse Awards.
Indian Blessing’s three starts were one fewer than the previous low of four starts shared by six fillies. Of those six, three—Dreaming of Anna, Halfbridled, and Storm Flag Flying—were unbeaten. Indian Blessing shares that trait with those three.
The six fillies named champion with just four starts had a common denominator: each capped her championship with a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), which is exactly what Indian Blessing did. In fact, the winner of the Juvenile Fillies has been named year-end champion 21 times in the 24 years the race has been run, the most of any Breeders’ Cup championship race.
Indian Blessing’s route from untested two-year-old to champion was relatively brief, just 59 days from her first start to last. She made her debut on August 30 at Saratoga Race Course and then, in back-to-back races, easily captured the Frizette Stakes (G1) and the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) by a combined eight lengths.
