Female jockey documentary to begin production

JOCK, a feature length documentary on female jockeys, will begin production shortly and has launched a website in conjunction with Women’s History month in March. 

The documentary will be made by director/producer Jason Neff and Emmy Award-winning producer Linda Ellman.

“It’s appropriate to announce this documentary in conjunction with Women’s History month because many firsts for the female jockeys took place during the month of March. These stories have never been told. They deserve attention,” Ellman said.

The film, which is scheduled to be released in 2009 in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of women earning the right to ride competitively, will feature pioneer female jockeys including Mary Bacon, Robyn Smith, and Barbara Joe Rubin, among others.

 “It’s always been my desire to recognize these women for what they accomplished and what they had to go through to get there,” Neff said. “It’s a classic underdog story that’s historically significant beyond the racetrack.”
