Racing photographer Jack Coady Sr. died of cancer Monday evening at his Glendale, Arizona, home. Coady was 80.

Following his service in the United States Navy during World War II, Coady worked as a photographer for The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette newspapers and freelanced for Time and Life magazines. In 1962, Coady founded Coady Photography at Turf Paradise in Phoenix.

Coady Photography currently shoots finish line and winner’s circle photos at 17 Thoroughbred, Standardbred, and Quarter Horse racetracks in North America, including Colonial Downs, Oaklawn Park, and Sunland Park. Coady remained the company’s principal executive until his death.

The business will now be operated by Coady’s sons Jack Jr. and Jeff, as well as his grandsons.

A third son, Clay, is an international dog show adjudicator.

A prayer service is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. MDT at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria, Arizona. A funeral mass is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6180 W. Utopia Road, Glendale, Arizona.
