Ohio steroid policy on schedule for '09
Ohio appears to be on track to have a ban on anabolic steroids in place by January 1.
Industry leaders have called upon state regulators to impose rules against anabolic steroids by that date. On Tuesday, the Ohio State Racing Commission sent out a release stating that it expects such rules to be in place by January 1.
At its September 17 meeting, the Ohio State Racing Commission unanimously approved the new steroid policy. It was forwarded to the Analytical Toxicology Laboratory at the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
The state imposed thresholds for the following steroids or their metabolites: stanozolol, boldenone, nandrolone, and testosterone in geldings and females.
Testing will be done with urine. The lab will not report positive testosterone tests on male horses, other than geldings.
