Delaware Park tabs Mooney as executive director of racing

Delaware Park has appointed longtime racetrack official John Mooney as its executive director of racing.

Mooney had recently been hired as a racing consultant at Delaware. He will oversee the racing office and maintenance of the racetrack and stable area.

The track has struggled to fill races this spring.

“The hiring of John Mooney further exemplifies Delaware Park’s commitment to racing,” said Bill Fasy, Delaware’s chief operating officer. “We are confident that John’s knowledge of the racing industry as well as his expertise in relationship building will further enrich Delaware Park’s reputation as one of the foremost racing venues on the East coast.”

Mooney was the general manager of Colonial Downs for seven years while the Maryland Jockey Club managed the facility. Mooney previously was Delaware’s general manager and the Maryland Jockey Club’s chief operating officer.
