Calder, Gulfstream to simulcast Preakness

Agreements have been reached that will enable fans at Calder Race Course and Gulfstream Park to watch and wager on races from Pimlico Race Course on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday’s card at the Baltimore track includes the $1-million Preakness Stakes (G1), the second leg of the Triple Crown.

Since Calder opened its live racing meet on April 21, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has blocked distribution of the state’s simulcast signal to the Miami Gardens, Florida, track and inter-track wagering sites in Florida due to a dispute involving advance-deposit wagering (ADW) revenue.

Last year, more than $4.6-million was wagered in Florida on the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown.

“While this agreement doesn’t solve the overall horsemen’s dispute and only allows the Maryland signal to Calder and the Florida ITWs for two days, we believe it is important to our Calder customers and the racing fans throughout Florida to be able to wager on the Preakness Stakes and the entire Pimlico card on Friday and Saturday,” said Steve Sexton, vice president of Churchill Downs Inc., which owns Calder. “Fortunately, this agreement comes in time to notify our Florida customers that they can wager on and enjoy these important races. We look forward to an enthusiastic crowd for two great days of racing.”
