Benefit planned for ailing jockey Vitek

by Frank Angst

With Midwest-based jockey Justin Vitek undergoing treatment for leukemia at a Louisville hospital, his friends and family have planned a fundraiser.

Jockeys’ Guild Midwest Regional Manager Jeff Johnston and his wife, JoLynn Johnston, have organized the benefit, which is scheduled for April 21 in the Great Hall of the Kentucky Derby Museum.

Vitek, who will turn 35 on March 28, was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia in mid-February and has been undergoing treatment at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. While Vitek has medical insurance, he has been undergoing extensive chemotherapy treatment. The benefit will help Vitek and his four-year-old daughter.

For more details, contact Jeff Johnston at (859) 547-8084.
