KEEP elects three new board members
Dr. Gary Knapp, Wayne Lyster III, and Andre Regard were elected as board members of the Kentucky Equine Education Project (KEEP) during its June board meeting.
Knapp owns Monticule Farm in Lexington and is the breeder of Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum Brands! (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Big Brown.
Lyster is the owner of Ashview Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, and was president of the Kentucky Racing Commission from 1992-‘96.
Regard is president of Occidental Thoroughbred, a full-service bloodstock agency and boarding farm in Paris, Kentucky.
“KEEP is proud to add such respected horse industry folks to our board,” KEEP Chairman Brereton Jones said. “Each of these gentlemen has a passion for the success of the horse industry in Kentucky and will work with KEEP to further its mission.”
Also at the meeting, the KEEP board unanimously voted to support the Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Safety Committee’s recommendations, which includes the elimination of steroids in race training and racing, a ban on toe grabs, and several whip regulations, after hearing a presentation from Jockey Club Executive Director Dan Fick.
