Breeders’ Cup supports St. Jude, Komen for the Cure
The Breeders’ Cup announced on Thursday it has selected St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to be non-profit beneficiaries for the October 24-25 running of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park.
The Breeders’ Cup plans to raise a minimum of $250,000 for each organization through ticket sales, one of a kind auction items, sponsor program,s and private donations. The partnership marks the first time the Breeders’ Cup has established relationships with broad-based global charitable organizations tied to the World Championships.
Based in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude Children’s Hospital works to save and find cures for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a Dallas-based network of breast cancer survivors and activists who work to raise awareness and find a cure for the disease.
Both of the selected organizations will participate in the events leading up to, and during, the Breeders’ Cup through information locations on-site at Santa Anita, public service announcements to be aired during the Breeders’ Cup broadcasts, and various fundraising activities. Plans have also been made for the organizations to work with Breeders’ Cup Challenge during their “Win and You’re In” events both in the United States and abroad.
“Being a part of the Breeders’ Cup is a way for Susan G. Komen for the Cure to step out and engage an entirely new audience we would probably not be able to reach otherwise,” said Katrina McGhee, vice president of marketing for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
In addition, the Breeders’ Cup will raise funds for local charities in the Southern California area and for equine-related charities it has supported since its inception.
