Santa Anita Park stewards disqualified Robs Coin from a runner-up finish in the seventh race at Hollywood Park on July 8, 2006, and ordered a redistribution of the purse after the post-race urine sample was found to contain mepivacaine in excess of the regulatory threshold level.

A split sample confirmed the finding. Mepivacaine is commonly used as a local anesthetic and is a Class 2 violation.

The California Horse Racing Board accepted a judge’s decision to suspend Jeff Mullins, who trained Robs Coin at the time, for 90 days. After serving 20 days beginning February 18, the balance of the suspension will be stayed provided Mullins obeys all horse racing laws and CHRB regulations during a one-year probationary period.
