Injured soldiers to be honored at Runnymede Farm

Nearly two dozen combat veterans injured on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan will be honored on Thursday with a tour and luncheon at Runnymede Farm in Paris, Kentucky.

The group of 20 veterans is from the Warrior Transition Battalion based at Fort Knox, Kentucky, the home of the U.S. Army Armor Center and the Army Recruiting Command.

The soldiers will get the chance to see 20 Runnymede yearlings that are being prepared for the Keeneland September yearling sale. They also will be shown Runnymede’s broodmares and foals of 2008, including a colt from the first crop of champion Bernardini who is a half brother to Japanese champion and international Group 1 winner Agnes Digital.

“This is a way of showing our appreciation for the sacrifices the soldiers have made on behalf of all of us,” Runnymeade owner Catesby Clay said. “And it will be our pleasure to introduce them to Kentucky’s signature industry, the breeding and racing of Thoroughbred horses.”
