Ellis boosts purses another 5%
Ellis Park will boost purses by 5% effective August 27, and the purse increase will sustain through September 1, the last day of the Henderson, Kentucky, track's meeting.
The purse increase amounts to a 10% boost over the purses published in the track's condition book. Ellis increased purses by 5% on August 13.
Track officials credit the success of its Gardenia Stakes (G3) day card on August 16 with their ability to boost purses.
In addition to the purse increase, Ellis is increasing the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund money by $3,000 on all eligible races to be run for the six remaining days of racing after the purse increase goes into effect. Eligible races include maiden allowance and all allowance races.
The track closed its doors on July 3 over a dispute with the KHBPA over the ADW contract. The two sides reached an agreement on July 5 and the season began on July 11, losing five race dates in the process.
