Central Kentucky breeder and bloodstock agent David Mullins died on Monday after a long illness.
Mullins owned Doninga Bloodstock and previously operated Doninga Farm in Lexington.
The farm consigned the highest-priced yearling filly in North America in 2002, Platinum Heights, a Storm Cat filly out of Amelia Bearhart purchased by Eugene Melnyk for $2.8-million at the Keeneland July sale.
Doninga also sold Canadian champion Saoirse in-foal to Seeking the Gold for $2.2-million at the 2001 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
Doninga bred Grade 1 winner The Groom Is Red and sold Grade 1 winner Island Sand in the Keeneland September yearling sale and 2004 Broodmare of the Year Baby Zip privately to Frank Stronach in 1995.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. EDT on Saturday at Christ the King Church in Lexington. Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary service at 8:45 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street in Lexington.
