Hancock, Van Clief elected Jockey Club stewards


Dell Hancock and D.G. Van Clief Jr. have been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, the breed registry for North American Thoroughbreds.

Hancock and Van Clief will fill the positions vacated by Donald Dizney and John Oxley at the expiration of their four-year terms in office.

Hancock is co-owner of Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky, and chairman and director of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. A member of The Jockey Club since 1995, Hancock previously served as a steward from 2003 through '07. Hancock also serves on The Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Safety Committee.

Van Clief is chairman of Fasig-Tipton Co., a trustee of The Jockey Club Foundation, and serves on the Breeders Cup Ltd. board of directors. He previously served as president and executive director of Breeders’ Cup Ltd.

Van Clief was the founding chairman of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) and served as the organization’s commissioner, chief executive officer, and vice chairman. A member of The Jockey Club since 1991, Van Clief received an Eclipse Award of Merit in 1998.
