TRA board endorses Jockey Club steroid recommendations
The Thoroughbred Racing Associations’s board of directors on Friday endorsed the recommendations of the Jockey Club’s Thoroughbred Safety Committee regarding the elimination of androgenic anabolic steroids in racing and training.
The board also endorsed the committee’s recommended ban on toe grabs and other traction devices as well as the proposed use of riding crops approved by the Model Rules Committee of the Association of Racing Commissioners International in consultation with the Jockeys’ Guild.
In other business on Friday, Tom Chuckas and Will Alempijevic were elected to the board representing the Maryland Jockey Club and Portland Meadows Racetrack, respectively.
