Woodford Reserve $1,000 mint julep cup design released

This year’s Woodford Reserve $1,000 mint julep cups will honor the 35th anniversary of Secretariat’s 1973 victory in the 99th Kentucky Derby (G1).

Only 99 sterling cups, plated in 24-karat gold and featuring LeRoy Neiman’s 35th anniversary artwork, will be made for purchase or auction. Each cup comes in an oak box from the same wood used to make Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels. The box is lined with custom-designed satin depicting Secretariat’s famed blue and white checkered silks.

Ninety-seven of 99 cups will feature a full-color reproduction on Neiman’s artwork commemorating the 1973 Triple Crown winner and come engraved with Secretariat’s name. The gold cups are offered with a sterling silver sipping straw. The 97 cups go on sale on April 14 at noon EDT for $1,000 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Two “Legendary Silks” cups, featuring one carat total weight of sapphires and diamonds representing the blue and white silks of Secretariat, will be offered during an online auction. Each cup features Neiman’s artwork and is presented with a 24-karat gold-plated sipping straw. The two cups will be auctioned online with bidding also beginning April 14 at noon and ending April 29.

Proceeds from the sale of the cups will benefit The Secretariat Foundation. For more information, to purchase a cup, or to learn how to bid on the two “Legendary Silks” cups, visit www.woodfordreservemintjulep.com
