Affirmed exhibition to open at Kentucky Horse Park

Posted: Friday, May 25, 2007 2:41 PM

A new exhibit featuring Affirmed, the last horse to win the Triple Crown, will be unveiled on June 7 at the Kentucky Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse in Lexington.

Affirmed’s owners, Louis and Patrice Wolfson, donated Affirmed’s racing trophies and memorabilia to the museum.

Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978 to become the last horse to win North America’s three classic races. Affirmed was named Horse of the Year in 1978 and ’79. During his four year racing career, Affirmed won 19 stakes races, including 14 Grade 1 events, and earned $2,393,818.

From 21 crops of racing age, Affirmed sired 498 winners, including 86 stakes winners and 42 graded stakes winners. He sired nine champions before his death in 2001. Notable progeny include 1992 and ’93 champion grass mare Flawlessly, 2000 Canadian Horse of the Year Quiet Resolve, ‘93 Canadian Horse of the Year Peteski, ‘89 Canadian champion grass horse Charlie Barley, ‘87 Canadian champion three-year-old female One From Heaven, and ‘93 Irish champion Zoman.

Through Friday, his progeny have earned $54,192,340.
