Breeders’ Cup launches 24-race Challenge series

Posted: Tuesday, July 17, 2007 2:32 PM

All 11 races that make up the two-day 2007 Breeders’ Cup World Championships will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience on a new official Breeders’ Cup website, which went live on Tuesday.

Breeders’ Cup officials discussed the new site and its features on Tuesday afternoon at a ceremony in New York to launch the Breeders’ Cup Challenge.

The Breeders’ Cup World Championships will consist of 11 races and purses and awards totaling $23-million. It will be held over two days for the first time on October 26-27 at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey.

The live telecast of the Breeders’ Cup Simulcast show will be streamed on breederscup.com.

“In today’s media world, the idea is to touch as many consumers as you can,” Breeders’ Cup Ltd President Greg Avioli said. “With our focus on growing the Breeders’ Cup internationally, we want to reach the broadest possible audience worldwide, and webcasting the 11 championship races allows us to do that.”

The redesigned Breeders’ Cup site, www.breederscup.com, features news, video, and interactive elements.

“The redesign and improvements for BreedersCup.com are part of our over-arching program to enhance the Breeders’ Cup experience,” Avioli continued. “We feel we have taken the first steps to creating a destination for horse racing fans around the world to keep track of all things Breeders’ Cup and to interact with our brand and each other.”

Beginning immediately, BreedersCup.com will be its own stand-alone site and no longer will be a sub-section of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s website at www.NTRA.com.
