New York firm to pay for backstretch holiday dinner

Posted: Thursday, December 20, 2007 11:27 AM

Bollam, Sheedy, Torani & Co., a financial and management consulting firm headquartered in Albany, New York, announced it will underwrite the holiday dinner for New York’s backstretch workers on December 24.

The dinner will served by the Backstretch Employee Service Team, which provides a full range of health and human services for workers in the barn areas of Belmont Park, Aqueduct, and Saratoga Race Course. Their programs include on-site primary care health clinics, health benefits, and counseling services.

“When we saw there was an opportunity to step up and make a difference, we were happy to do so,” said Joe Torani, managing partner of Bollam, Sheedy, Torani & Co. “This event will provide a holiday meal for hundreds of workers, many of them far from home, so we are very pleased to provide the financial support.”

The holiday celebration will take place at the backstretch kitchens of both Aqueduct and Belmont. It serves more than 500 workers.

“We are extremely grateful to [Bollam, Sheedy, Torani & Co.] for stepping forward with the donation,” said Cate Dolan, president of the backstretch team. “Their gift is truly a charitable act that makes it possible for us to provide a holiday celebration for the hardworking folks in the backstretch.”
