Keeneland unveils new website, gears up for spring meet

Posted: Monday, April 02, 2007 8:20 PM

Keeneland unveiled its redesigned website on Monday, which features a new look, additional information about racing and sales, improved navigation, and more emphasis on interactive multi-media.

Among the new features that can be accessed at www.keeneland.com are video replays of workouts by Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) contenders, a video gallery, an interactive learn to wager tutorial, and an improved sales section.

“Keeneland’s website serves a wide range of audiences—from horsemen who need quick access to things like condition books and catalogs to tourists who want to find out when the morning workouts take place and where the track kitchen is located,” said Jim Williams, director of communications at Keeneland. “Our goal is to have a website that provides relevant information that is easy to find and that showcases what is unique about Keeneland.”

The spring meeting begins Friday at Keeneland Race Course, highlighted by the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) on April 14, traditionally a key Kentucky Derby prep race. Opening weekend will be anchored by the $500,000 Ashland Stakes (G1) for three-year-old fillies on Saturday.

The meet is expected to draw many of the nation’s top trainers, including Todd Pletcher, Doug O’Neill, Steve Asmussen, Patrick Biancone, Bobby Frankel, D. Wayne Lukas, Kiaran McLaughlin, Nick Zito, Michael Matz, and Barclay Tagg.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response from horsemen with regard to stall applications,” said Rogers Beasley, director of racing. “I think that’s a reflection of the purses and how well our Polytrack surface has been received. The depth and quality of our maiden and allowance races in particular may be the best we’ve ever seen. Judging from those factors, this may be our best spring meet yet.”

Keeneland will host at least one stakes race each day during the 15-day meet and offer a stakes schedule worth more than $4.3-million. The meeting runs from April 6 through the 27 with live racing held Wednesday through Sunday, except for Easter Sunday.
