The Maryland Jockey Club on Thursday unveiled the logo for the 133rd Preakness Stakes (G1), which is scheduled to be run on May 17, 2008.
The 2008 design draws its inspiration from the popular art deco style of the 1920s and ‘30s. The stylized representation of the traditional Preakness images can be seen throughout the logo.
The emblem depicts a horse and jockey, a Black-eyed Susan flower, and the esteemed Pimlico clubhouse cupola. The logo encompasses Maryland’s striking state flag colors of red, gold, and black.
Jeff Sewell of the Leffler Agency in Baltimore and Tampa designed the official 2008 logo. The Leffler Agency has designed the logo for the nine consecutive years and has won four national awards for the designs.
