Average daily handle up at Hollywood Park’s fall meet

Hollywood Park concluded its 32-day fall meeting on Saturday with average daily mutuel handle of $10.9-million, a 4.7% increase compared with last year’s meeting.

“Last year was the only time simulcast wagering on the Breeders’ Cup [World Championships] was available during the autumn meeting, so we’re ecstatic with this year’s increase,” Hollywood President Jack Liebau said. “Excluding Breeders’ Cup day, we finished ahead in on-track wagering and up 8% in total handle.”

Average daily attendance was 4,944, a 3.6% increase compared with 4,775 at the 2006 fall meet. The on-track daily average mutuel handle of $1.3-million decreased 4.8% compared with 2006.

Excluding the Breeders’ Cup, average on-track mutuel handle increased 1.6%. An 8% increase in advance-deposit wagering on Hollywood races helped boost mutuel handle figures.

Average field size was 8.6 starters per race compared with 8.5 in 2006. Purses averaged more than $400,000 per day compared with $389,000 last year.
