Williams, partner in Sackatoga Stable, dies
Augustine “Gus” Williams, who campaigned 2003 champion three-year-old colt and dual classic winner Funny Cide as a member of Sackatoga Stable, died on Thursday at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York. He was 81.
Williams, who suffered a stroke three weeks ago, first owned horses in the 1960s. He was a partner in Sackatoga Stable, which owned Funny Cide, the 2003 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness Stakes (G1) winner.
Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Catherine. He is survived by three children.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. EDT at Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar, New York. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Delmar.
