Arizona-based trainer Rollins dies in training accident

Bradley Rollins, a Turf Paradise trainer and the president of the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders' Association, died on Monday following an accident at his ranch. He was 65.

Rollins sustained fatal injuries while working with a young horse at his ranch, located about 18 miles north of the Phoenix, Arizona, track.

A former jockey who is the son of longtime trainer Lyman Rollins and his wife, Lois, the younger Rollins took out his trainer's license to help his father. He assisted in the training of multiple graded stakes winners Bersid and Answer Do, who set a North American turf course record in 1990 by running six furlongs in 1:07 at Hollywood Park.

Since 1977, horses trained by Rollins earned 270 wins, including 18 stakes victories, and bankrolled $1,408,425. Rollins earned his most lucrative victory by saddling Kresgeville to a win in the 2005 Manhattan Beach Stakes at Hollywood Park

Rollins was a jockey during the 1960s and '70s. He guided Mac's Pleasure to victory for his father in the 1976 Phoenix Gold Cup Handicap at Turf Paradise, one of four stakes wins he earned that season.

Born in 1941 in Salt Lake City, Rollins was a member of the Arizona Thoroughbred Breeders' Association since 1981, the North American Equine Services, and a past board member of the Arizona division of the Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association.
