Lone Star Park adds Ouija Board Handicap to 2007 stakes schedule
Lone Star Park, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary of live racing in 2007, will host a 67-day race meeting from April 12 through July 29, including 32 stakes races offering $3,435,000 in purses.
One of the highlights of the meeting will be Lone Star Million Day on May 28, which will include six stakes—three of them graded—with purses totaling $1.1-million. That day’s card will include the $400,000 Lone Star Park Handicap (G3), the $200,000 Dallas Turf Cup Handicap (G3), and the $200,000 Ouija Board Handicap (G3), which previously was called the WinStar Distaff Handicap (G3).
The Ouija Board Handicap, a one-mile race on the turf, honors the recently retired mare who won the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) at Lone Star Park. She won that race again this year at Churchill Downs.
The five-year-old Cape Cross (Ire) mare retired with career earnings of $6,312,552, two European Horse of the Year titles, and the 2004 Eclipse Award as champion grass mare among her many honors.
“Ouija Board was simply magnificent throughout her stellar career and shined at Lone Star Park in the 2004 Breeders’ Cup World Championships,” Lone Star Park General Manager Drew Shubeck said. “It’s only fitting that one of the greatest mares of all-time be honored with our greatest race for fillies and mares on turf.”
The 2007 schedule also includes Lone Star Million Preview Day on April 28 and Lone Star Derby Day on May 12.
