Cordero condemns expected sentence for man who killed his wife

Racing Hall of Fame jockey Angel Cordero Jr. has voiced outrage over the six-month prison sentence expected to be issued to a Long Island, New York, man convicted of killing Cordero's wife, Marjorie, in a hit-and-run accident on January 22, 2001. "When you lose the best thing you have, it's difficult for anybody," Cordero told the New York Post. "She was a beautiful lady, young and full of life. She was killed by somebody who is going to get away with it."

Robert Mickols, 63, faces up to four years in prison for leaving the scene of the accident after he struck Marjorie Cordero from behind with his vehicle as she walked on Glen Cove Road in Greenvale, New York, in the dark evening hours. Nassau County Judge Ira Wexner said Mickols would receive six months behind bars and five years probation when sentenced on November 20.

"I just don't think it's fair that somebody kills somebody and gets six months maximum," Cordero said.
