Finish lines: Notes from around the Thoroughbred world

Posted: Thursday, October 03, 2002

--Lone Star Park will unveil an interactive video game, "Derby Owners Club-World Edition," on Friday for its 33-day Quarter Horse meeting. Game maker Sega and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association previously entered an agreement designating the game as the official branded interactive video game of the NTRA. The game, which will be making its debut at a North American racetrack, is a role-playing game, in which players are breeders, trainers, jockeys and owners of virtual Thoroughbred racehorses.

--Actor Jeff Bridges, who has the landed the role of Charles Howard, owner of Seabiscuit, in the movie-in-the-making "Seabiscuit: An American Legend," was spotted enjoying the races on opening day of the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita on Wednesday. Universal Pictures will begin filming at Santa Anita on November 22. Meanwhile, California-based riding star Kevin Krigger will lose his five-pound apprentice allowance on October 10, but said he is confident he can continue his winning ways. "With the agent that I have (Tony Matos), and the business that we're picking up, I hope we can keep rolling the way we are," Krigger said. "As long as the trainers keep riding me, I'll keep winning, so I'm not too worried right now." To prove it, Krigger booted in 41.30-to-1 Special Willy to victory in the day's second race.

--Television Games Network will air the $1,448,640 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-G1) from Longchamp racecourse in Paris during a special three-hour program from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. EDT.
