Keeneland, KTA to give away $10,000 in college scholarships
Keeneland and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association have joined forces to create scholarship day at Keeneland Race Course on October 11, when ten college students will each be presented with a $1,000 scholarship to the educational institution of their choice.
"The KTA approached us about creating a scholarship day," said Jim Williams, Keeneland's director of communications. "And we knew right away it was something we should do. It fits Keeneland's mission of giving back to the community. Bringing students out for a day at the races is a great way to introduce a new generation of fans to our sport."
Students who present a valid college I.D. and complete the necessary registration form will be eligible for random scholarship drawings throughout the day and will receive free admission to the races that day. One scholarship will be given away after each of Keeneland's nine races, with the tenth scholarship being awarded to a student with a parent that works in the horse industry. Students must be present to win.
"We've successfully initiated scholarship day at other tracks," said David Switzer, executive director of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association. "It is a program that is important to our members, so we thought it only natural that we initiate a scholarship day at a racetrack that has demonstrated time and again its commitment to community."
