Prairie Meadows sets handle records for mixed meet

Prairie Meadows handled $26,119,350 during its 45-day mixed meeting that ended on September 28, setting a record for average daily handle as bettors pushed $580,430 through the windows each day, a 60% increase over last year.

The figure represents a dramatic turnaround for the Altoona, Iowa, track because for the last two years Prairie Meadows had posted decreases in average daily handle since the previous record of $553,000 was set in 1999. On-track handle increased 4% to $62,136 per day.

Glenn Corbett and Cindy Noll shared the riding title, as each notched 42 wins. Noll edged Corbett in the earnings race, however, with her mounts garnering $777,743 in winnings versus $762,596 for Corbett.

Dick Clark, Prairie Meadows' all-time leading trainer, saddled 29 winners from 176 starters to win the training title by six wins over Tim Gleason.
