NYRA seeking glass enclosure for Aqueduct
Posted: Thursday, April 06, 2000
The New York Racing Association (NYRA), which last year completed a $4-million renovation of Aqueduct's paddock, is seeking state assistance for a $3.3-million glass enclosure of the racetrack's second floor. The project would encompass half of the box seat area and some reserved seats in the clubhouse and grandstand.
NYRA has applied to the state Capital Investment Fund for the money, and NYRA President Terry Meyocks said he hoped the project could begin by late summer or this fall.
"This is like phase two," Meyocks said Wednesday. "The engineers told us they couldn't do both projects at the same time." Meyocks said that NYRA's glass enclosure of Belmont Park's grandstand is nearly complete.—Bill Heller
