International racing group reorganizes council

The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities has reorganized its executive council following a meeting on March 31 in Paris. The reorganization includes the appointment of two vice chairmen and the naming of a secretary general and technical advisor.
Louis Romanet, who has served as chairman of the organization since its inception, was elected to a three-year term that will run through March 2003.
Other appointments include Hans Stahl, president of the Jockey Club in the United States, to vice chairman in charge of commercial affairs, and Christopher Foster, executive director of the Jockey Club in Britain, to vice chairman in charge of regulatory matters.
Stahl will chair the newly created Wagering, Communication, and Commercial Committee, which will include representatives from North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
Dominique de Wenden of France-Galop was appointed as secretary general of the federation and Roland Devoltz of France-Galop was appointed as technical adviser on regulatory matters.
Meanwhile, the federation announced that the International Conference of Horseracing Authorities will be held on October 2 in Paris. At that time, Jean Romanet, who has decided to retire as honorary adviser to the federation, will be honored.
