Pimlico intruder Ferrell sentenced

Lee Chang Ferrell, who barged onto the track during the running of a race on the Preakness Stakes (G1) undercard at Pimlico Race Course last year, was sentenced last week in Baltimore circuit court. Ferrell was handed a three-year suspended sentence and five years probation for his involvement in the incident.
Ferrell also was ordered to continue psychological counseling and enroll in a vocational skills program, the Baltimore Sun reports.
During the running of the Maryland Breeders' Cup Handicap (G3), Ferrell, 23, wandered on to the track, throwing a punch at Artax. Ferrell, who has been described by his attorney as having "borderline personality disorder" missed Artax and connected with jockey Jorge Chavez's leg.
Fred Heyman, Ferrell's attorney, said his client does not remember the incident, which allegedly occurred after Ferrell had been drinking in the infield with friends. No horses or riders were injured during the incident.
