Lukas duo tunes up at Churchill

The D. Wayne Lukas-trained duo of High Yield and Exchange Rate turned in sharp five-furlong workouts over the Churchill Downs main track on Tuesday as they prepare for their next Kentucky Derby (G1) prep races.Florida Derby (G1) runner-up and Fountain of Youth Stakes (G1) winner High Yield went the distance shortly after the break over the "good" track in 1:00 handily, the fastest of 12 works at the distance.

The three-year-old son of Storm Cat, whose workout was delayed for two days due to persistent rains in the Louisville area, will use the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) on April 15 at Keeneland as his final prep for the Kentucky Derby.

Exchange Rate, winner of the Risen Star Stakes and fourth in the Louisiana Derby (G2) last time out, went the same distance in 1:00 2/5 during early training hours. The son of Danzig is headed to the Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) on April 15 at Aqueduct for his next start and is scheduled to be shipped to New York on April 11.

"They looked well within themselves," said assistant trainer Mike Maker. "Both worked well and came back well."
