Louisiana Downs may add Quarter Horse racing
Louisiana Downs is exploring the possibility of adding a Quarter Horse meet to its traditional Thoroughbred racing meet by 2002 and also shuffling its Thoroughbred racing meet to run at the same time nearby Lone Star Park in Texas is conducting racing.
Ray Tromba, Louisiana Downs general manager, told Daily Racing Form that the Bossier City track has discussed the possibility of running a Quarter Horse meet in from late February to early April in 2002.
Louisiana Downs recently requested 87 Thoroughbred racing dates for 2001, from June 30 to November 11, a similar schedule to what it is offering this year.
Should the Quarter Horse meet be approved, Louisiana Downs has considered following up that session with a Thoroughbred meet, which would pit it directly in competition with Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. Lone Star lies about 180 miles west of Louisiana Downs.
Louisiana Downs has received initial approvals for the installation of slot machines at the facility and plans on purse increases in future years.
